Critical Infrastructure Operations in Iraq Are Never Only Technical

Operating critical infrastructure is never only a technical responsibility.


In telecom operations, every service interruption matters.


When I led operations for Korek Telecom’s network of more than 960 telecommunications towers across five Iraqi governorates, including remote areas in northern and southern Iraq, the challenge was not limited to network operations, maintenance, fuel supply, security, access, field-team coordination, or harsh weather conditions in places such as Basrah.


One of the greatest management challenges was keeping the service stable while coordinating with local communities, administrative authorities, security stakeholders, subcontractors, and field teams.


This experience taught me that reliable infrastructure depends on more than equipment, systems, and maintenance plans.


It depends on practical leadership, strong coordination, sound judgment, and daily follow-up.
